Pied a Terre Grand Canal Mocenigo San Marco

a perfect pied a terre in an historic Grand Canal Palazzo

A charming pied a terre in an historic Grand Canal Palazzo – this delightful property is situated at raised ground floor level in the renowned historic XV century Palazzo Mocenigo Ca’ Vecchia on the Grand Canal in the San Marco area.

The palazzo, once home to Lord Byron, has undergone major refurbishment in all the communal areas, among which the large entrance lobby and lovely extensive communal garden which this apartment looks on to. The apartment is flooded with natural light at all hours of the day.

There is a communal palazzo water entrance directly from the Grand Canal – so convenient for arrival by boat.

The apartment is composed of a lovely central living room, a double bedroom and spacious bathroom with shower, a fully fitted and contemporary kitchen with storage/laundry space. Air conditioned throughout and in mint condition, this property is ideal as a convenient second home, plus offering very good potential for short term rentals.

All the bespoke furnishings – kitchen, library, cupboards and bathroom fittings are included in the asking price.

What attracted us to this property

When we view a new property we are focussing principally on our international clientele and their wish lists, for example historic features, outside space, water access, great views and light. Location is always a consideration, but if we find a truly unique property we may decide it's still worth a look whatever the area - Venice is so small really! The potential for restoration is often a plus, to achieve a truly personalised space. But at the end of the day we always ask ourselves this one deciding question: do we actually LIKE this property? If it ticks lots of boxes but doesn't feel right, we prefer not to take it on.

Palazzo Mocenigo, the Byron palazzo, has always been fascinating to me...not only for its exciting history (read any book by Andrea de Robilant about his ancestors) but also for its sheer scale and importance.  This is a tiny apartment with a big provenance!

Location

San Marco

This is the historical centre of the town with the grand Piazza San Marco at its very heart with Venice’s most coveted museums: Palazzo Ducale and Museo Correr. The buildings in this area of town are all on a fabulously grand scale. You will find most of the designer shops and luxury brands around this area, including a number of fine jewellers hidden among the colonnades of the piazza itself. The best time to visit this area is in the evening when the sun sets over the curved domes of St. Mark’s Basilica and live music sweeps across the piazza defined by Napoleon as the “finest drawing room in Europe”.
