Orio Piano Nobile Grand Canal

A spectacular Grand Canal property in a top location on Dorsoduro

An exceptional piano nobile of an important historic palazzo with 6 gothic windows and 4 balconies onto the Grand Canal, in the best location imaginable, looking towards the Gritti and with extensive views towards the bacino of San Marco.

Built by the ancient noble Orio family in the 14th century, it remains to this day one of the most beautiful palaces on the Grand Canal, made even more unique by having an additional lateral window to the side of the main esafora affording views towards the Accademia Bridge.

The property is on the 1st floor and is accessed via a delightful ground floor entrance courtyard with low rise stairs to the apartment. Alternatively there is a lift accessed from the 2nd floor.

This exquisite property has been restored and furnished to the highest international level whilst maintaining and enhancing its innately Venetian features. It has been a labour of love by its careful and imaginative owners, with the help of their Parisian tapissiers Maison Brazet who, famous internationally for their restoration work at Versailles and Fontainbleau, as well as museums such as the J Paul Getty Museum in the US, masterminded and created all of the wonderful fabrics and furnishings in this divine apartment. In addition the owners commissioned Venetian artisans of the highest level, from architects and designers to restorers, decorators, mosaicists and metal workers to complement the exquisite antique furniture and paintings which complete this amazing home.

The apartment comprises several main reception rooms as well as 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms including guest facilities, and a divine large terrace.

A beautiful and welcoming square entrance hall leads, via a corridor, first to the large main salon overlooking the Grand Canal, then to a second Grand Canal salon/ bedroom with bathroom and a very fashionable and atmospheric moroccan style mezzanine, as well as the beautiful corner double bedroom with en suite bathroom and dressing room.

Moving back to the corridor there is a well equipped kitchen as well as service room and laundry room for a separate service area, a further dressing room and guest bathroom.

From the main entrance hall you progress to further rooms, a formal dining room, a mezzanine study, and the master bedroom with dressing room and stunning gold mosaic bathroom.

Finally, doors lead to a most beautiful private and large terrace perfect for relaxed al fresco dining.

The apartment has integral air conditioning.

A superb second or third home in a wonderful historic setting.

What attracted us to this property

When we view a new property we are focussing principally on our international clientele and their wish lists, for example historic features, outside space, water access, great views and light. Location is always a consideration, but if we find a truly unique property we may decide it's still worth a look whatever the area - Venice is so small really! The potential for restoration is often a plus, to achieve a truly personalised space. But at the end of the day we always ask ourselves this one deciding question: do we actually LIKE this property? If it ticks lots of boxes but doesn't feel right, we prefer not to take it on.

Who wouldn't be attracted to this beautiful apartment? On the piano nobile of the most beautiful Gothic palazzos on the Grand Canal, with balconies and lateral views, as well as a truly delightful first floor terrace, the whole property has a spectacular and unified design overlay of the highest standard, an exclusive and top apartment in every way. Perfect

Location

Dorsoduro

This sleepy yet elegant quarter is regarded as the Mayfair of Venice: quiet yet brimming with things to see, from the Guggenheim Museum with its delightful, leafy gardens and exquisitely curated collection of modern art, to the Punta Della Dogana, a sensational collection of contemporary art in the old customs building, recently restored by Tadao Ando, to the Accademia Galleries. Snaking along the Grand Canal, you will find charming palazzi - some grand and opulent, others on a pleasingly human scale. Take a short stroll from the Accademia bridge to the Zattere for a long canalside ‘passeggiata’ or to Campo Santa Margherita, where locals gather to catch up with friends to enjoy the night air... Perfect for an evening spritz before dinner, or for a nightcap before walking home.

With direct views over the Gritti, the Accademia to the left and San Marco to the right, it would be hard to think of a better location for a second home. Very close to the Guggenheim, there are also several private galleries in the vicinity, as well as some very good restaurants close by (Linea d'Ombra, Centurion, Riviera...)
