Palazzetto de Verre Murano waterfront

A stunningly designed palazzetto with wide canal views, extensive gardens, panoramic terrace

This is a property like no other – a classic Murano 18th century palazzetto rising from the water, yet a whole world apart. Welcome to the rarified world of Aristide Najean, a renowned French painter and glass sculptor who has made on the island of Murano both his personal home and a heavenly Cathedral, a Furnace where he creates and produces top glass design and artistic pieces for international projects and high-end hotels such as the Dorchester in London, Le Parc Monceau in Paris, Palazzina G and Quadri in Venice, as well as for designers such as Philippe Starck, Baccarat, Jean-Michel Willmotte,  Patrick Joiun and Sanjit Manku, Bruno Moinard.

The house, completely finished only five years ago after a three year restoration project, is simply stunning, with an artistic and energetic flow you feel from the moment you enter and walk through its many divine and varied spaces, finding yourself in a warm and completely curated home at every level.

At ground floor level the huge and welcoming entrance living space draws you through spacious casual reception rooms as well as towards a beautiful courtyard with historic well with an amazing glass waterfall structure, and on further to a working orchard garden where fruit and vegetables are produced in abundance, giving you the voluptuous feeling of having land on the island. The courtyard and garden together represent around 500 sq/m of  private outside space. In addition there is a separate garden annexe.

Leading from the ground floor a wide staircase takes you up almost mesmerically to one of the most stunning living spaces I have ever seen in Venice, with fascinating design features and wonderful light. Together with the many incredible pieces designed by Aristide himself, this is a truly unique home. At this level you are drawn (if you can bear to be) from the central high ceilinged piano nobile living room to the amazing dining room/kitchen, a large and casual space where you want to just sit, eat, and relax with friends, lost in time.  Also at this piano nobile level are two incredibly stylish bedrooms and ultra bathrooms, with bespoke furniture designed for the house by the owner.

Up again to a huge mansarda - the perfect place where I will write my first novel - an enormous open plan space with sleeping area as well as a subtly designed and tucked away kitchen space, leading to a spectacular fully south facing terrace with amazing views over the canal, to the beautiful Palazzo Mula, and beyond.

The flow of rooms in this palazzetto, each one with its own poetic character, together with its strong design values, makes this is a truly special home, and lends itself therefore to be the perfect dream weekend place, keys in hand, far from reality. I still feel almost dizzy thinking back on my visit only a few days ago, and wanting to be back there. Before I leave, I feel I should ask the question – what is the next plan? But it’s already obvious to me – Aristide Najean simply cannot stand still, a creative tour de force, his next project calls, among other things a Design Academy to train young artists to think and breathe, simply to create, pencil and notebook in hand.

Description of rooms

Ground floor

Double doors from the Fondamenta lead directly into a huge and comfortable living entrance space giving on to the courtyard and garden. From this space, with its original architraves, open brickwork and beamed ceilings, leads a large design studio/ fourth bedroom, a full bathroom, a separate kitchen living room, as well as cupboards and storage space.

The courtyard and orchard garden are around 500 sq.m combined. There is a detached annexe in the courtyard with living space and bathroom.

Piano Nobile first floor

Wide stairs lead the the first floor living space. Subtle wooden floors and neutral walls are the perfect backdrop for the wonderful design elements which have been incorporated into the house, especially the quite unique fusion glass technique on the side windows. There is a central and quite stunning Murano glass fireplace with living flame fire.

A wide architraved entrance leads into the beautiful kitchen dining space with a truly beautiful ebony curved kitchen to the owners own design and which reflects the flowing space throughout.

The master bedroom also has a Murano glass working fireplace, as well as incredible bespoke cupboards which form part of the structure of the space. En suite bathroom/ ante bathroom and dressing areas.

A stylish second bedroom also with en suite bathroom has a loft sleeping area to maximise the living area.

Second floor - mansarda

Up again to the second floor to yet another vibe, a perfect mansarda space for kids or guests with the advantage of a the subtly designed kitchen installation. I particularly love this space.  Stunning views both over the internal landscape of Murano as well as the canal in front from the simply divine terrace.

The house has been fully renovated and has double glazing, as well as air conditioning, hot and cold systems, electrical systems, etcetera.

Furniture and art works can be discussed by separate arrangement.

What attracted us to this property

When we view a new property we are focussing principally on our international clientele and their wish lists, for example historic features, outside space, water access, great views and light. Location is always a consideration, but if we find a truly unique property we may decide it's still worth a look whatever the area - Venice is so small really! The potential for restoration is often a plus, to achieve a truly personalised space. But at the end of the day we always ask ourselves this one deciding question: do we actually LIKE this property? If it ticks lots of boxes but doesn't feel right, we prefer not to take it on.

This is a  most unusual property for us to take on, but we immediately fell in love with it.  The extremely high level of decor and design, carefully curated by its international glass design and maker owners, as well as its prime waterfront position, made it a must have for us....a really wonderful property

Location

Murano

Murano is famous for its historic glass design production, dating from 1291 and still active today. It's a village on water, a charming world apart yet only a few minutes by boat to San Marco. It has good restaurants, bars and cafes, and a character all of its own, away from the crowds, a totally peaceful yet very well connected Venetian retreat.
